Medical Transportation and Patient Travel
The Health Benefits Patient Travel (Medical Transportation) program ensures medically necessary health-related services, not provided through private insurance plans, provincial or territorial health and social programs, or other publicly funded programs, are available for eligible registered First Nations throughout Canada. The Medical Transportation benefit is provided to eligible Skidegate community members (and other First Nations living in the area we serve) to access these health services that cannot be obtained in the community. There are a number of conditions that apply, however, the program is critical to ensuring our community is accessing specialist care.

Highlights
In the 2022/23 fiscal year, over $90,000 of funding went towards supporting travel, accommodation, and meals for treatment in Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
The community survey highlighted that transportation is still a concern for community members despite best efforts from the Board of Directors and management team to address this issue. There is constant discussion at a Governance level about ways to address the increase in demand.
