The Hiit’agan.iina Kuuyas Naay Skidegate Youth Centre allows the youth of Skidegate and surrounding areas to engage in safe and meaningful social, recreational and educational activities.
2020 Year in Review
• Our programming list has increased to 148 youth
• During the pandemic the Youth Centre has stayed active and transitioned to virtual and no-contact programming. This programs included care packages, online cultural workshops, music lessons and home-based scavenger hunts.
2020 Highlights
• Free kayak and paddleboard memberships from Green Coast.
• Online beading and drum-making workshops with Pete Thompson and Vernon Williams Jr.
• Care Packages related to self-care, wellness, gardening, arts and crafts.
• Haida language books and card games from SHIP.
• Home-based cupcake contest
• Winter activity challenge: 20 things to do in Skidegate.
• Virtual ceremony and prayer videos with Pete Thompson.
• Online cedar cleansing workshops with William Russ.
• Christmas dinner and gift home delivery.
• Online hip-hop poetry and dance workshops with local and Bronx based artists.
• Hala ga taalocal food packages in collaboration with local Food 2 School.
• Online and one-on-one lessons in the Youth Centre.
• Easter drive-by and goodie bags in collaboration with Skidegate Band Council, Haida Child and Family Services and the Village of Queen Charlotte.
